  • Reunion at the office: should I apologise for previous bullying ( school days)?

Hi. I'm in an emotional quandary and don't know what to do now. A few weeks ago, a new colleague started working for me at the company. We both work in the office, although in different departments. Nevertheless, we sometimes have to deal with each other or coordinate on different projects.

We know each other from our school days. Back then we were in the same class together. Some former school friends and I regularly bullied her. We stole her school supplies, told her off to the teachers or once even threw a lemonade in her hair. After this action she had to cry, but she didn't let on. To cut a long story short: We pretty much caught her in the crossfire! I'm not proud of that today. I think I let myself get carried away by my clique back then.

Although that was a long time ago, our relationship is not good. She hardly talks to me, gives me the evil eye all the time and avoids me when she can. Should I apologise to her for the behaviour back then? Can that loosen up the situation? I don't feel very comfortable with the strained relationship. However, I also don't want us to argue then and make the situation even more difficult. Of course, I also want to avoid my colleagues finding out about our past history.
How would you act in my role?
    Many greetings!

( about my name Narrative from Wikipedia
Narrative is the term used to describe a meaningful narrative that influences the way the environment is perceived. It conveys values and emotions, is usually related to a nation state or a certain cultural area, I hope I have used it correctly in relation to bullying).
