  • Jean-Jacques Rousseau - The call "Back to nature!" often - but falsely - attributed to him influenced many scientists

Jean-Jacques Rousseau (b. June 28, 1712, Geneva; † July 2, 1778, Ermenonville, near Paris) was a Geneva writer, philosopher, educator, naturalist, and composer. His political philosophy influenced the progress of the Enlightenment throughout Europe. Rousseau had a great influence on pedagogy and political theory in the late 18th and 19th and 20th centuries throughout Europe. He was an important pioneer of the French Revolution. His work is an indissoluble part of French and European literary and intellectual history. The call "Back to nature!" often - but falsely - attributed to him influenced many scientists and triggered later counter-movements to industrialization.
