I've been to the hospital several times, also at different clinics. I'm beginning to wonder if there are any German doctors left. Especially the senior doctor positions are often filled by foreigners, or at least they have foreign-sounding names. There is no assumption here that anyone with a foreign-sounding name may well not be the second or third generation to live in Germany and speak perfect German. It is true that hardly any normal patient gets to see a senior doctor, but if that is the case, if you are a very difficult case, then a senior doctor with foreign roots usually comes. I find this not only strange, but also very damaging in terms of understanding and communication.
The reason for this is that you can hardly understand a foreigner when he talks about normal, everyday things in broken German. If it is also about medical terms, then it is often difficult to understand the senior doctor or the ward doctor. But that is precisely what is important for recovery. The question really is: Do German assistant doctors no longer make it - because of some quota fulfilment - to the status of senior doctor?
