My story is about my apprenticeship as a butcher over 12 years ago. At that time it was difficult to find an apprenticeship as a young person. When I finally got an acceptance for a vocational training two years after my graduation from school, it never occurred to me to break off this apprenticeship for any reason. Apprenticeship years are not master years, but my three years as an apprentice went far below the belt.
I was regularly bullied by my boss. He was choleric and relied on authoritarian leadership. He made you understand that an apprentice is worth nothing. Insults like "idiot" or "stupid" as well as degrading remarks aimed at negatively describing one's intelligence were the order of the day. The highlight of the three years was when my boss said to me, "Jerk off more often so you can be more focused!" With daily harassment and loud yelling, he always pursued the goal of hardening trainees through this. The consequences for me, however, were a limited ability to learn, a negative work ethic and a lowered self-esteem.
I made the best of these experiences. I completed a second degree, am now a Master of Science, and became a plant manager in another butcher's store. I had set myself the goal that one day I would become a better boss.
My appeal to all readers is: If there are people who are unfair to you, take this negative energy and turn it into a positive energy for you!
