Shooting at the neighbour's house, what should I do about this very specific problem ?

The incident: a few months ago (October 2022, approx. 17.00) there was a shooting at my neighbour's house. To be more precise, about 9 shots were fired in quick succession from a semi-automatic pistol, probably 9mm calibre. Then I heard a passenger car driving away at high speed.
The neighbour lives about 150 m away. I was in the armed forces and can therefore roughly assess the weapon.
I then drove past the neighbour's house and saw him disappear behind the curtains. My wife called him, but only the answering machine was on.
I don't know my neighbour's circumstances, but there seem to be problems.


Sorry, the incident is not necessarily neighbour dispute now, but other incidents with the neighbour are "neighbour dispute". I therefore suspect a certain connection.

What should I do ? Report it to the police ? An investigation will undoubtedly end in nothing, as I did not see the shooter or the car. If it's about what I suspect, then the neighbour won't say who was shooting around either. A tricky thing.

What should the police do? Look for the bullet casings? They have more important things to do. Besides, you didn't see anyone, not even a number plate. It's a lost cause if the neighbour keeps quiet. It's like Chicago or Naples!

I found out about it because people keep asking about it and they give me an angry impression. The people also have normal cars, so they are not delivery men. The licence plates are not from the area either.

Stupid comment, we've heard noises like that several times before, but were they gunshots? Unfortunately, there are also a lot of people here who have nothing else to do but put other people down or harass them with their smartphones, and these people make faces like the one described by TE, except that they find it fun to put on an act. In this way, they protect the aggressors instead of helping the victims.


If your neighbour puts his head down and says nothing, leave him alone with his problem. He doesn't want help!

@ Dibouk - of course report to the police. These are gangster methods and the neighbor obviously knows. He wouldn't have done it if he didn't know who it was and why! I suspect that it was about money. Probably he has annoyed a few people or money not paid back. To regulate that with the pistol is of course criminal. This is the responsibility of the police, even if they can not do much in the current case. It's also about what will happen in the futur
