Why?
Dissemination speed Coronavirus - The virus can be transmitted more easily from person to person. Therefore it spreads much faster than the flu.
Incubation period Coronavirus - The coronavirus has an incubation period of 5 to 15 days. However, the infected person is already infectious from the first day, i.e. he can infect other people without showing any symptoms of illness. Especially dangerous: there are infected people who pass on the virus without getting sick themselves. These persons (superspreaders) are especially problematic, because they (unknowingly) infect hundreds without being detected.
Particularly vulnerable age groups, coronavirus - probably for appeasement, it was spread that the virus mainly affects old people. In fact, in France, half of those infected are less than 50 years old. In the USA, the 30 year old group is the most common group of infected people. The reason for the different risk groups in terms of age could, apart from trivialisation, also be the possibility of different virus strains.
Different virus strains, coronavirus - this assumption is based on the observation that very different age groups are infected. In Italy the preferred group is over 60, in the USA under 40. The course of the disease is also very different. It is reasonable to assume that different strains of the virus have different characteristics.
Disease progression coronavirus - until now, 80% of cases were assumed to be mild. The figure is now shifting towards 70 %. There is also less optimism about the late effects.
Late effects of coronavirus - Fibrosis has also been observed in mild cases after the disease has subsided. So there will be late effects even in the less severe cases.
Acute, severe course of coronavirus disease - Pneumonia caused by coronavirus is more difficult to treat than pneumonia caused by influenza viruses. About three times as many corona infected people die as flu patients. The severe cases of corona-infected patients must remain in hospital for 6 to 8 weeks.
Drugs against the corona virus are not yet available.
Vaccination against the corona virus - possibly in a few months (optimistic), in about a year (realistic)
