Why do scientists use the term SARS-CoV-2 for the coronavirus ? Or also novel coronavirus 2019,

The following terms are currently used:

SARS-CoV-2 (Sars-CoV-2, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2, "Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2")

2019-nCoV, 2019-novel corona virus, Covid 19, novel coronavirus 2019, Wuhan coronavirus, China virus,

You may have noticed that virologists often use the term SARS-CoV-2. Why ? Sars-Cov-2 refers to the earlier "problem case" Sars. At that time ( 2002 7/ 2003 ) there was already a great fear of a pandemic. There were 800 victims and the humanity is very close to a pandemic ! Especially frightening was the mortality rate of 30 %.

By using the term Sars-Cov-2, virologists point out the similarity of the viruses. The neural coronavirus Sars-Cov-2 should not be underestimated. Its mortality rate is slightly lower than that of sars, but exact figures are not yet available. In some areas it is 2 % in some other areas it is 10 % . It is possible that these are different strains of the virus. The figures apply to optimised treatment, i.e. artificial respiration. In Africa and South America, the number of ventilators is not sufficient. Mortality will be correspondingly higher.

Late effects - here too there is still a need for research, but, there are indications that the coronavirus leaves its traces in the lungs. Late effects can therefore be expected. At the moment it is also completely unclear how long the immunity lasts after an infection has been overcome.

The term Sars-Cov-2 is therefore not without reason used by many virologists.
