The situation is unusual and not easy to describe. My wife has been suffering from paranoid schizophrenia for more than 10 years. This manifests itself in various forms. She does not want contact with other people. If I bring someone with me, she starts fights. She won't go to any event with me, no movies, no restaurants. Her housekeeping is a disaster. The total messisyndrome !
Various therapies and medications have been tried. Without success. According to some doctors she is out of therapy, the other group of doctors calls her therapy resistant.
I have been advised to leave her and put her in a home. I can't.
We live in two houses next to each other, but there are always massive problems.
Of course, I am trying to build another relationship. But I am expected to divorce or at least move to another place.
The women can't or won't understand that this would be a disaster for my wife.
Everyone would understand if it were a handicapped child. Nobody would expect me to send it to a home. But the handicapped wife is probably contrary to the general cliché of morality.
So there I sit, having a wife and yet no wife. Schizophrenia is a terrible disease. But society completely represses this disease and leaves those involved out in the cold.
I used to be in a support group and I know that there are other couples who share this terrible fate. But even with these fellow sufferers, I saw the disinterest and ignorance of those around them. Diets were offered, medicinal herbs, pilgrimages, etc. But, as soon as someone was concretely confronted with the problem, the wall was pulled up.
How does it look in practice ? If I meet a woman then after a certain time she also wants to see my house. Even if I explain the situation several times, they nag me until I agree. What happens then is always the same process. The women come and find my wife quite sympathetic. At least in the first half hour. Schizophrenic people are often highly intelligent and naturally have experience with psychological finesse. You often don't realize until very late what they are up to and how sophisticated their tactics are.
But, after 20 to 30 minutes, the game begins and the visitor finds herself in a devilish dance of madness. No matter what is said, it is picked apart and dragged through the mud. Then the loud insults and personal attacks begin. The visitor can be glad if she can leave the house without any bruises.
The reactions vary. Some cry, others are angry, but ultimately helplessness prevails. The end of the relationship is preprogrammed, because no woman wants to deal with such a problem, even if only from a distance.
