My neighbour had seen better times. In the millions. Then he slipped and became a small business owner. In the region of 20,000 euros.
Now he's also gone bankrupt with this business. He chose me as the scapegoat, but I had absolutely nothing to do with his business. What I did was fight back. When he went to the mayor and told lies, I corrected him. I answered his reports to the police with counter-reports. I answered the outrageous letters from lawyers myself, but he paid for the lawyer. It was similar with the court reports and measurements. He also lost considerable sums of money. Now the court has closed the shop to him and had it evicted. He sits there and no longer understands the world. But it's my fault ...

Quand quelqu'un se dégrade si lentement, ou voit sa ruine complète, cela conduit rarement à la connaissance de soi ! La plupart d'entre eux rejettent la faute sur « le système », leur partenaire infidèle ou même leur voisin.
Le problème, c'est que ces personnes aimeraient bien entraîner les autres dans leur chute. Comme elles n'ont plus rien à perdre, elles peuvent faire des choses vraiment folles sans que l'on puisse agir efficacement contre elles.
Même les autorités ne font pas grand-chose contre ces personnes. Ils savent par expérience que ces histoires sont sans fin. Au final, c'est l'Etat qui paie avec l'aide sociale ...
Une possibilité est de rendre ces personnes publiques. La plupart du temps, ils jouent les hommes d'affaires prospères à l'extérieur. Il suffit de donner quelques informations aux voisins ou aux autorités. On l'enregistre volontiers, car on n'est pas le seul à qui ces gens causent des problèmes.

When someone deteriorates so slowly, or sees complete ruin, it rarely leads to self-knowledge! Most of them blame ‘the system’, their unfaithful partner or even their neighbour.
The problem is that these people would love to drag others down with them. With nothing left to lose, they can do really crazy things without anyone being able to take effective action against them.
Even the authorities don't do much about them. They know from experience that these stories have no end. At the end of the day, it's the state that pays with social assistance...
One option is to make these people public. Most of the time, they play the part of successful businessmen to the outside world. All they have to do is give a bit of information to their neighbours or the authorities. We're happy to record it, because we're not the only ones these people cause problems for.
