In 2022, family A moved into a terraced house in a rural area. At the entrance to the house is a private driveway to the right of which is a public driveway to garages, so far everything is fine, neighbors are great, everyone is friendly, albeit distant. Nothing special so far.

Last year, and much worse this year, a lot of dog excrement collects on both driveways. Family A really stinks in the garden because the dog shits directly on their hedge and the owner (still unknown) does not dispose of the droppings.
Interestingly, 11 neighbors could not find the culprit or culprits and the stupid thing is that there is a dog toilet field less than 200m away.
Who is so inconsiderate and lazy and doesn't clean it up?

Now family A has collected the poop, bagged it up and put it out for public collection and disposal.
This bag ended up in the family's garden.

Potential dog owners had already been approached, but of course none had been.

Vinegar was applied as a deterrent and to prevent further droppings, alternatively cayenne pepper has already been purchased but has not yet been used due to its extreme effect.

Family A has already been on the lookout and of what feels like 100 dogs, we already have a certain idea of who is running around, where and when. So far there are 2 potential culprits, an older couple with 2 short-legged spitz-like dogs and a single pug owner.

Both caught more or less in flagrante delicto but no opportunity to take photos or videos. Family A has already spoken to the pug owner, the dog is 16 years old and therefore no longer a culprit in the foreseeable future, and the owner was obliging and understanding.

The problem has probably been going on for some time because a sign has been put up on every lawn and flower bed in the neighboring apartment buildings, but the offenders have not yet been caught.

If family A catches the culprit and he or she doesn't see reason, they will probably use other means.

One idea was to photograph the perpetrators, find out their name and address, and denounce them in a nice anonymous letter with a request to press charges if the offense is repeated.....
This will probably only get family A into hot water legally.

Answer: if the letter was completely anonymous, who will be charged with what? I would take my time and let it come to me.

Dog shit is also hardly a criminal offense, but is rather punished by the police as a petty offense.

In principle, dogs like to go to certain places. One dog starts it and the others add their poo.

I would clear away the dog excrement and sprinkle pepper on the spot. Then there is only the stimulus to sneeze, but not to poo.

With the old dog, I could imagine that it just doesn't want to walk too far anymore.

Menthol for the sauna helps against stray dogs If I see a dog turd in my garden (open to the street), I remove it. Then I throw a handful of menthol on the spot. The menthol for the sauna is relatively cheap.
It has helped quite well so far. There are currently only 1 - 2 problems per year!
