  • Xenophobia, tolerance, what is normal ?

There is much discussion about xenophobia and in this context also about "normal" ! What is normal ? What is normal in our culture ? With the help of two examples I would like to share my experience on this subject. I had a Chinese employee. Her name was Chu and she came from Shanghai. It was really like that, apparently a few million Chienese are called Chu.
She worked very well and was absolutely reliable.

One day I invited her to dinner. It as a conclusion cheese. She rejected the cheese in disgust: "it's rotten milk". In fact, for a long time it was absolutely impossible to eat cheese in the Middle Kingdom. This has changed somewhat in recent years. But, in the past, it was not normal for Chinese people to eat cheese.
After dinner, my cat came into the room. Madam Chu fearfully left the room: "that's his pet tiger !" She was indeed panic-stricken by the cat. For us completely incomprehensible, but for many Chinese an actual problem. On the other hand, some Chinese eat everything. An inglorious example is the pangolin, which for a long time was considered a carrier of the coronavirus. But that is another story.
The two examples with the cheese and the cat show that something can be completely normal here, which is a medium catastrophe in another culture. The understanding of strangers requires also information and thinking along.

let's see how far this goes with the Chinese and the Indians ...if they buy the Russian gas and overtake the Western countries. Then one will get with security the Pangolin again from the corner !
